Detailing & Polishing Essentials:
Before we dive in, here of some of the tools and materials you will need :
- Minimum 5 sets of microfiber towels (for washing, drying, wiping off polish, for final surface prep and to apply & buff protective coating)
- Designated Wash media - for example our OP Ultra Wash or OP Ecowash
- Panel prep (usually alcohol based) - for example our OP Paint Prep
- High-quality polish - for example our OP Compound
Steps to Polishing Your PPF:
- Prep Work is Key: Find some shade! Park your car in a cool, shaded area to avoid overheating the surface. Then, give your car a thorough rinse to remove any loose dirt or debris.
- Washing with Care: Fill a bucket with cool water and mix in an ounce of our OP Ecowash. If using an auto soap, such as OP Ultra Wash, add an ounce or 2 to your Wash bucket. Using your designated wash mitt, gently wash the entire car, paying close attention to the PPF areas. Remember to rinse your mitt frequently to avoid spreading dirt.
- The Art of Drying: Grab your clean microfiber drying towel and gently dry the entire car. Be extra careful – never scrub or use harsh motions, as this can scratch the PPF.
- Polishing Power: Now comes the fun part! Apply a small amount of polish onto your clean microfiber towel. Work in small sections using a light, circular motion. Gently buff the surface to remove any minor imperfections or water spots. Pro Tip: A simple dual-action polisher will help the process go much quicker. But you want to be careful not to polish at high speed as it can severely damage the PPF.
- Finishing Touches: Once you've polished the entire PPF area, use a fresh microfiber towel to remove the polish. Then using a new, clean towel with Paint Prep to remove any remaining polish.
- Protect Your Work: Apply a protective sealant to the paint and PPF - a ceramic sealant or ceramic coating. We recommend our OP Ceramic Detailer.
- Pat Yourself on the Back: Step back and admire your handiwork – your car's paint protection film is gleaming!
Pro Tips from Owner's Pride Auto Spa:
- Maintenance is Key: Depending on how often you drive and the elements your car faces, we recommend to detail your car at least once a month and always apply some form of protection - a great maintenance topper is our OP Slick Quick Detailer.
- Ditch the Harsh Chemicals: Stay away from harsh chemicals, detergents, or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the PPF. A pH neutral soap such as OP Ultra Wash
- Professional Touch: While DIY car care is great, for a deep clean and optimal results, consider scheduling a professional PPF maintenance detail at Owner's Pride Auto Spa Orlando. Our experienced technicians use specialized techniques and products to ensure your car's PPF looks its absolute best.
